I invite you to explore how Bowenwork and complementary therapies can help you improve both the state of your body and your mind!
ABout Me
Welcome! My name is Rachael Williams. I am a licensed advanced Bowenwork practitioner through the American Bowen Academy (http://www.americanbowen.academy) with specialized training/experience in supporting musicians and mothers (primemester, pre-natal, postpartum).
Having nearly completed my doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine, I often use a TCM framework when discussing health and offering guidance and education. Ask me about additional therapies if you are interested (fire cupping, gua sha, tui na, nutritional/life-style guidance).
I look forward to co-working to help you achieve your goals, while optimizing the health of your mind, body, and spirit.
A little more background…
I discovered Bowenwork in 2004 when a friend encouraged me to get a session to help my voice recover from a lingering cough. As a singer, it is important to keep the soft tissue of the neck and upper back as tension-free as possible. I began seeing my first Bowenwork practitioner (who later became my teacher) to help my body release this tension. During our sessions she also addressed my chronic knee and ankle pain. The effects (pain relief and improvement in my voice) were striking and my sessions always left me feeling deeply relaxed and peaceful. When presented with the opportunity to study this modality, I took a leap. My trainings began in 2015; during this time I realized that Bowenwork (+ the healing arts) and I are well suited.
I have repeatedly seen firsthand how effective Bowenwork can be and am excited to share it's magic with you! It is an honor to co-create a safe space for the unwinding of old hurts in the body.
When I'm not engaged in body/mind/spiritwork, you can find me playing with my new baby, making potions for my apothecary (www.flowerfairyapothecary.com), studying the healing arts, and singing/performing for my artist project www.holysea.love.
About bowenwork
Bowenwork, named for its creator Tom Bowen, is a technique which works through the easeful manipulation of the bodies soft-tissues (muscle, fascia, tendons, ligaments, joints, and nerves), sending specific messages to the brain via the fascial and nervous systems. These messages instruct your body, which naturally has immense regenerative and reparative abilities, to balance its tension patterns.
A "move" in Bowenwork involves a gentle stretch of the soft-tissue and this "challenge" is held for several seconds before the practitioners hands "roll" over the tissue. During the challenge, sensory information is sent via the body's nerve pathways to the spinal cord and then to the brain. In order to give the brain time to integrate the messages, and respond to the body with corrective impulses, there is a 2-5 minute "wait" period in-between each series of "moves" during which the practitioner will typically leave the room.
A gentle and slow modality, Bowenwork is able to soften even the most stubbornly set patterns in the body that give rise to disharmony; often clients initially come to Bowenwork as a last result to help shift chronic health issues, especially those that manifest pain. That said, Bowenwork can help prevent the development of chronic issues if used preventatively or soon after an injury. This modality is appropriate for all ages (infant to elderly) as well as all states of ability (I can perform work on a clients seated in a chair for instance if lying down causes any discomfort).

“I was going through a rough point in my life and Bowen work with Rachael helped me through it. She calmed and relaxed me and I truly felt my grief was significantly reduced. The time she spent with me beforehand figuring out how to tailor her practice specifically to what I needed and then again the time spent afterwards checking in with me was invaluable. I highly recommend Bowen work with Rachael!!! ”
“Rachael’s knowledge and desire to problem-solve, as well as her soothing hands and charisma, made my experience with Bowenwork a wonderful one. In addition to the body work during my appointments, Rachael spent invaluable time talking with me about my physical and mental areas that I felt needed attention. Her advice on ways to improve my issues through dietary changes and herbal remedy were also an important part of my healing. With such warm comfort both on and off the Bowenwork table, I highly recommend a visit to Rachael... you won’t want to leave!”
